Was personal stuff leaking?
Open AI’s Chief Information Security Officer Dan Stucky informed in an X post about this. This feature is attached to Chat GPT by which visitors could make their conversations public on search engines like Google. The company has been running with that feature as an experiment..
First of all, this feature was completely opt-in. In simple words, the chat became public only with the full consent of the user. However, various reports say that a large number of people activated this feature by mistake. That happened more often when the person was sharing his chats with friends or family.

What was actually the problem?
In fact, Open AI added such an option to Chat GPT a little earlier. Users could enable it to make the conversation public in the search engine. Despite the fact that it was off by default, many users turned it on accidentally.
According to Fast Company, more than 4,500 chats were indexed on the Google search engine. Most of these included personal information: name and location. Thus, the privacy of a large number of users has been compromised. Besides, Open AI CEO Sam Altman mentioned that people share the most personal information in the chat. The worst part is that even if the user deletes the chat soon, it would still stay at Google search results until the Google search indexing database is updating. As of now, Open AI is working together with the search engine companies to delete chats that have already been indexed.
