Instagram Policy

Instagram has changed its policy of allowing all users to go live and has also decided to have a minimum requirement of 1,000 followers along with a public account. This has been given confirmed by Instagram after direct confirmation to TechCrunch. While in the previous policy, any Instagram user was giving access to go live, despite being a private account or having fewer than 1,000 followers. This will directly affect small creators and other common users who like to go live with friends. We have also received this message while trying to go live.

The message from Instagram while notifying users

About this change reads: “We have change the terms of using this feature. Now only public accounts with 1,000 or more followers will be able to make live videos”. Many users are feeling disappointed about this change and even opposing this new rule on social media and asking Instagram to undo this decision. It is a move exactly the same as Tiktok did, where users also require 1,000 or above followers to go live. However, on YouTube, you only need 50 subscribers to go live. Though Instagram has not given any clear reason behind all this, it can be done to improve the quality of live streams and reduce the company’s cost of live streams due to fewer viewers.

By keeping this minimum followers condition

Instagram is trying to ensure laptop streaming is only done by those users who already have an audience. Hence the overall experience for the viewers will get better as dull or non-interactive content will get eliminated on its own. This also presents Meta’s interest in this rule because if live streaming is expensive, it benefits Meta to limit this service to users having got followers.

Although this also mirrors Instagram with other social media like YouTube and TikTok. However, for new or growing creators that start building their follower base, this minimum threshold feels like a restriction. Hence in opposition, new users feel this unfair and believe it is a blow to the creativity and growth potential of new accounts. However,

Meta has not yet announced its plan

About the roll-back of this new decimation. Users who do not fulfill the eligibility requirement will see a new restriction whenever they try to go live. This may force them to be more active and boost their account presence, which will result in more high pitch and active content. Hence as the digital world is fostering their users with changes, platforms like Instagram Keep changing their rules and policies to keep their actions fair yet balanced. Hence this new change can give us a brief idea of how social media like Instagram is trying to maintain a fair balance between quality content and resource management.
