New Delhi Railway Station Stampede: Prime Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reveals that to members of Legislative Council in Rajya Sabha the stampede at New Delhi station on February 15 was a relatively minor incident. Compensation to the dead and injured

The Railway Minister said that a compensation of Rs 10 lakh has been given to the families of the 18 people killed in this accident. Each of the 15 seriously injured people has been given a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh and the other injured have been given Rs 1 lakh. In total, the government has given an amount of Rs 2.01 crore to 33 victims and their families.

The government took these steps after the accident

According to the Railway Minister, the government has taken many important steps to prevent future incidents like this. To achieve this, holding areas for crowds are established in 73 major railway stations. In addition, now only passengers holding confirmed tickets are being allowed on to the platform. Foot overbridges are being broadened. They are adding CCTV and cameras. War rooms are being set up at major stations so that crowd conditions can be monitored and immediate action taken.

SP MP had asked questions

The information was for the first time made public through Ramji Lal Suman, an MP from Samajwadi Party and questions were asked about investigation report of this event. The Railway Minister further assured that all the necessary steps are being taken by railway system to avoid another incident like this one in future. What’s more, according to the suggestions of report, improvements are being made.
