On Sunday, Yash Raj Films declared advance bookings were underway through an attention-grabbing video shared on Instagram. The accompanying caption read: “Are you prepared to witness the carnage in theaters starting August 14th? Purchase your tickets now for War 2 and experience something you’ll remember for a lifetime 🔥🔥 Releasing in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil worldwide in theaters.”
Earlier last week, the international previews began for the highly anticipated War 2.
However, overseas response was not as strong as hoped. Just one day after stateside pre-sales launched for the Telugu version, momentum seemed to build but the Hindi release struggled to gain traction. Data from major online ticketing platforms revealed that many of the large theaters set to screen the Hindi version for its Wednesday premiere had not sold a single ticket. Industry insiders say the film’s Hindi release was planned across some 900 US screens for paid previews alone, yet as of the following Sunday morning, a meager tally of approximately 1,600 tickets had been sold – meaning various auditoriums were slated to open nearly empty.
